Shibori is Japanese dyeing technique created to dye a fabric. The word comes from the verb root shiboru, “to wring, squeeze, press.” Shibori has an ancient history date way back from the 8th century. Shibori traditions existed and still exist in so many cultures. Each culture adds its own take on shibori. It was introduced to India in the early 20th century apparently by Rabindranath Tagore. Shibori dyeing is widely practiced in jodhpur, sikar and Jaipur. It is resist dyeing technique in which complex patterns are stitched and stitching is tightly gathered before dyeing. and after that dyeing it in indigo and other colors.
