Batik is an Indonesian technique of making designs with wax. Unique freehand patterns are drawn on the fabric with wax by using a pen made up of a coconut shell. Later, the fabric is dyed in the desired colour in boiling water to remove the wax. The word Batik has been derived from the Javanese words Amba, meaning to write, and titik, meaning dot or point.
